More Than a Game: My Lifelong Bond with the Philadelphia Eagles

A Team, a Tradition, a Lifetime of Memories

In the grand scope of the world’s issues, I am aware of how much bigger things are than the Philadelphia Eagles.

Poverty. War. Climate change.

These are the battles that deserve the most of our attention. But that doesn’t make my obsession with the Eagles any less real, or less meaningful in my life.

Yes, I care deeply about the world’s problems, and I wish for a more peaceful, just, and equal world.

But I’m also human, and my heart beats a little faster when I see my team play. Sometimes, the weight of life is lighter when the Eagles win.

It’s an obsession, no doubt.

Yesterday, all I wanted in the world was for the Eagles to win the NFC Championship game. And they did.

The joy that washed over me when the final whistle blew is hard to explain, even though it feels so deeply personal.

Again, there are millions of things I could be thinking about in this world. Things that really matter. But for those few hours, all I could focus on was my team.

And that feeling, that emotional release, was everything.

The Eagles are more than a football team to me. They are family. The players are all part of a narrative that has played out in my life.

Now, I watch Jalen Hurts prove the doubters wrong time and time again. And every member of the team is so special. From Quinyon Mitchell to CJ Gardner-Johnson to Cam Juergens to Jalen Carter. Each man brings something vital.

They’re not just playing football. They’ve got grit, determination, and resilience. And for someone like me, who lives and breathes their victories and losses, this is inspiring.

It’s a reminder that no matter the odds, you show up. You show up, and you keep fighting. And when you win, you win as a team, not just as individuals.

The Eagles’ victory yesterday wasn’t just a victory on the field. It was a victory wrapped up in a lifetime of memories for me.

I couldn’t help but cry when they won. Yes, it’s “just a game,” as they say, but it’s also so much more.

For me, it’s a connection to my dad, who took me to Eagles games when I was just three years old. I remember him carrying me into the old Vet Stadium, me sitting on his lap, and listening to WIP Sports talk coming through his headphones.

It was the beginning of a bond, a tradition that grew stronger with every season.

You see, it’s not just about the game itself, but what it represents. It’s about family, history, and tradition.

It’s about shared moments that are impossible to count but they feel so deeply ingrained in who I am.

Watching the Eagles win is more than just a win for a football team to me. It’s a win for the years of memories built with my dad and my family, the lessons in resilience, the joy in victory, and the connection to something larger.

Maybe that’s why it affects me so deeply. Because in those moments of celebration, I’m not just watching a game. I’m reliving my past, and looking forward to a future filled with more moments like this.

And as always, GO BIRDS!

Warmly, Annie
